The Nintendo Switch 2 game console will be presented this week, but details will have to wait

According to well-known insider Nate the Hate, Nintendo is going to present a trailer dedicated to the technical characteristics and components of the long-awaited Switch 2 console this Thursday, January 16th. The software presentation will take place in late February or early March. The new console is expected to go on sale in May-June this year.

«I can share with you that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be unveiled next week… I was told that the Switch 2 will be unveiled on Thursday, January 16th… in just a few days. I’ve heard that the presentation itself will focus almost exclusively on the console itself. There will be no games. There may be a game running on screen depending on how the trailer is put together, but the software won’t be the focus,” the source said.

Nate the Hate suggests that the Switch 2 could launch in May or June of this year – which matches information from other sources – and that a new version of Mario Kart could be available at launch, with 3D Mario coming out during the 2025 holiday period. Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Assassin’s Creed Mirage are expected to be released for the new console.

Nintendo previously confirmed plans to unveil its next console in its current fiscal year, which ends in March 2025. In the summer of 2023, knowledgeable sources reported that the console was already with key development partners, with Nintendo targeting a 2024 launch. However, the launch of the system is believed to have been delayed to avoid shortages.

The Switch 2 has been the subject of a flurry of leaks this month, mostly from CES 2025. It is claimed that the device will support 256GB and 512GB memory cards, Joy-Con controllers will be attached to the console using magnetic holders, SL and SR buttons on the new ones controllers will become larger, and the “C” button will also appear on the right, the purpose of which is still unknown.

Accessory maker Genki brought to the event a 3D-printed mockup of what it says is a successor to the Nintendo Switch handheld gaming console. Nintendo itself claims that it has nothing to do with the mockup shown.
