The new Witcher book has revealed Geralt’s real age – in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt he was not so old

Fans of The Witcher have been trying to figure out the exact age of monster hunter Geralt of Rivia for years, and the recently released new book in the series by writer Andrzej Sapkowski has finally put an end to the debate.

Let us remind you that the work is called Wiedźmin: Rozdroże Kruków (“The Witcher – Crossing of Ravens”) and is a prequel to the main saga. According to the plot, Geralt is still young and is only taking his first steps in his dangerous profession.

As noted by Redanian Intelligence, the events of “Crows Crossing” take place in 1229—at that time, according to the book, Geralt was 18 years old. In other words, he was born in 1211.

Thus, by the end of Sapkowski’s book saga (1268), Geralt’s age reached 57 years – that is, he is only slightly older than Queen Calanthe. At the time of Ciri’s birth he was about 40 years old.

Geralt from the CD Projekt Red games also turned out to be not so old. At the beginning of The Witcher 3, the witcher mentor Vesemir mentions that the White Wolf is already nearly a hundred years old, but in reality (the events of the threequel take place in 1272) he is only 61 years old.

It is worth noting that the Netflix series has moved away from the book canon: by the end of the third season, Geralt turns 106 years old (born in 1160), and the sorceress Yennefer is only 74 (born in 1192 versus 1174 in the original source).

The book “The Witcher – Crossroads of Ravens” has so far been published only in Poland. The Netflix series’ fourth season (with a new lead actor) is expected in 2025, and CDPR’s recently announced The Witcher 4 has no release date.
