The new US authorities intend to limit the supply of NVIDIA chips to China even more

The previous US administration gradually limited the supply of NVIDIA computing accelerators to the PRC, as a result of which the latter was forced to adapt the existing components to the requirements in the field of export control in their speed. The fruit of such efforts was the H20 accelerator, but its supply to China can be prohibited if this considers the new US government appropriate.

This was reported by Bloomberg with reference to its own sources. The corresponding restrictions are still being discussed at the preliminary level, and it is not a fact that the new group of American officials will decide on their implementation, but Donald Trump (Donald Trump) did not differ in particular favor with the Chinese authorities earlier, so the escalation of trade restrictions may well remain. The candidate for the post of US Minister of Trade, Howard Lutnick, said yesterday that he intends to very strictly control the export of semiconductor products from the country.

News about possible new restrictions on the supply of NVIDIA products to China at the moment caused a drop in the company’s shares in the United States by 6.9 %, maintaining volatility this week. Representatives of the company limited themselves to a statement that they were ready to work with the administration when implementing its plans in the field of artificial intelligence. Recall that NVIDIA leaders have already begun to hint by the US authorities under the former president of the country on the counterproductivity of excessive sanctions. Trying to achieve independence from the products of American companies, China will take import substitution, however, the American business will eventually suffer, as NVIDIA believes.

H20 accelerators resulted in a two -stage strengthening of sanctions against China, since the NVIDIA reacted to their first wave by the release of H800, but after a while such accelerators were banned for delivery to China, so the company in 2023 had to be in a hurry to produce H20 C even more low speed. According to Bloomberg, the idea of limiting the supply of H20 in the PRC was formed under President Bayden, but did not manage to materialize.
