The new Apple M4 Pro and M4 Max chips turned out to be significantly faster than their predecessors in the first tests

Apple’s new M4 Pro and M4 Max processors showed impressive performance gains over their predecessors in early Geekbench tests.

In the Geekbench 6.3 database, a 14-core Apple M4 Pro model with 20 built-in graphics cores and 48 GB of unified RAM was noted. The new processor scored 3,925 points in the single-threaded performance test, and 22,669 points in the multi-threaded performance test. This is 25 and 46% higher than the results of the Apple M3 Pro processor – 3138/15,480 points, respectively. Of course, the increase in multi-threaded performance is largely due to the increased number of cores (the new chip has two more CPU cores and two more GPU cores than its predecessor). However, the increase in single-threaded performance is also impressive. This is likely due to the fact that the Apple M4 Pro clocks at up to 4.51 GHz, while its predecessor has a maximum frequency of 4.06 GHz. It is noteworthy that the multi-threaded performance of the Apple M4 Pro was even higher than that of last year’s 16-core M3 Max (21,253 points).

The graphics performance of the 20-core iGPU in the Apple M4 Pro in the Geekbench OpenCL test was 69,867 points – 38% higher than the Apple M3 Pro (50,373 points). The new chip did not match the M3 Max graphics with 40 cores (91,413 points in the same test). However, it was only 31% slower. Taking into account half the number of graphics cores, this is an excellent result.

As for the flagship 16-core Apple M4 Max with a frequency of 4.5 GHz, offering up to 128 GB of unified memory, the chip scored 4060 points in the Geekbench 6.3 single-core performance test, and 26,675 points in the multi-core performance test. In terms of single-core performance, the new product was 31% more efficient than its predecessor, the Apple M3 Max (3096 points), and in terms of multi-core performance, it was 25% more efficient (Apple M3 Max has 21,243 points).

The integrated graphics of the 40-core Apple M4 Max processor scored 192,532 points in the Geekbench Metal test, which is 24% higher than the Apple M3 Max’s 155,214 points.
