The mobile GeForce RTX 5090 was only 10-15% faster than the mobile RTX 5080, and 72% more expensive

As the first independent tests of the mobile GeForce RTX 5080 video card conducted by the Notebookcheck portal show, it is not much slower than the flagship RTX 5090 model of the same segment. Earlier, the same source reported that the mobile RTX 5090 provides only half the performance of the desktop version of the flagship.

The mobile RTX 5090 has more CUDA cores than the mobile RTX 5080, but both cards have the same TDP of 150W (175W with Dynamic Boost). These power limitations of the next-gen cards explain why the RTX 5080 isn’t much slower than its older sibling.

Notebookcheck tested a Schenker Neo 16 laptop equipped with an RTX 5080 graphics card. As it turns out, this card is only 10-15% slower than the RTX 5090 in games.

«The relatively small performance difference between the two cards makes it worth considering laptops with RTX 5080 graphics. This will save you hundreds of dollars and give you better performance per dollar,” writes Notebookcheck.

The mobile GeForce RTX 5080 has 27% fewer CUDA cores, 33% less video memory, and demonstrates 10-15% lower performance than the mobile RTX 5090. At the same time, the RTX 5090 costs 72% more (compared to the most affordable laptop models with these graphics cards). For example, in the case of the Schenker Neo 16, the transition from the RTX 5080 to the RTX 5090 will cost the buyer an additional 855 euros, which is about 20% of the cost of the entire laptop.
