The legendary “Snake” from Nokia phones has returned as a widget for Nothing smartphones

Nothing has released a new Android app called Nothing Community Widgets, which will feature home screen widgets and games created in collaboration with its community of users. First on the list is a widget that plays the legendary Snake, one of the three pre-installed games that appeared on the Nokia 6110, released 26 years ago.

In the original Snake, you had to use buttons to control it because cell phones at the time didn’t have touch screens. In Nothing’s version of the game, control is carried out using directed movements of your finger across the screen, and you can pause the game by double-tapping. Otherwise, the gameplay remains the same: the player gains points by eating red dots, and tries to avoid colliding with himself, since the snake becomes larger as the dots are eaten.

This widget is inspired by the work of artist Rahul Janardhanan, who earlier this year developed and published 10 potential widget concepts for Nothing OS. The artist’s work caught the attention of Nothing, and the company worked with a developer from the Nothing community to create this widget.

The new game widget “Snake” and the Community Widgets application itself are the result of the company’s work with the user community. In October, the company announced the Nothing Phone 2A Plus Community Edition smartphone with updated branded lighting, a set of wallpapers for the desktop and new packaging, which were created by the “most talented” device users of the companies.
