The iPhone 17 Air will be a quarter thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro and the thinnest iPhone ever

Next year, according to unofficial information, Apple intends to release a smartphone that will be much thinner than the current iPhone. To do this, the company will have to make some compromises in terms of technical characteristics, but the thickness of the device will be reduced by a quarter compared to current models.

Apple has already begun to reduce the thickness of its devices: in May, the iPad Pro on the M4 chip turned out to be radically thin, and in September, the Apple Watch Series 10 smart watch “lost” significantly. This year, the line of phones avoided this fate, but next year the company will release the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air – it will do without advanced characteristics, but will demonstrate the new direction of Apple design.

The information was once again confirmed by Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman, who recently spoke about Apple’s success in the project to create its own 5G modem – the company has invested several billion dollars in this in recent years. “This device will be the company’s thinnest phone to date and will show why Apple spent billions of dollars to replace Qualcomm. Using its own modem, Apple will be able to create a smartphone that will be about 2 millimeters thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro,” said Mr. Gurman.

The current iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are 7.80mm thick; The thickness of the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max is 8.25 mm. If you reduce these figures by 2 mm, it turns out that the new device will become more than a quarter thinner than the Pro series models and slightly smaller than the base models. Apple’s thinnest phone to date is the iPhone 6, which is 6.9mm thick, which means the upcoming iPhone 17 Air could be even thinner. It is possible that fans of the brand will be ready to give up advanced technical characteristics for this.
