At the World Economic Forum in Davos, new details about the Neom megaproject in Saudi Arabia became known. In particular, new information appeared about the construction of The Line (“Line”) 170 km long and 500 m high. At the forum, the representative of the project reported that laying the foundation for the first stage of the “Steep skyscraper” will begin this year and clarified when they would appear there to appear there The first tenants.

The NEOM complex will spread in the territory approximately equal to the area of ​​Belgium. The Line will become its capital. In addition to him, skyscrapers will be built as part of the project and recreation areas in the open air will be created. The complex, by the way, is built in the immediate vicinity of the Suez Canal – one of the most important world navigable arteries. This plays a key role in providing a complex, which in the future must satisfy the daily needs of nine million inhabitants.

The organizers of the project proceed from the assumption that in the foreseeable future oil will cease to bring superprofits, and Neom should become a source of income due to tourism. In the meantime, the project brings benefits to manufacturers of cement and metal. It is alleged that Neom already consumes 20 % of the global production of steel used for the manufacture of reinforcement, piles, foundation and concrete structures.

How should it turn out

The first phase of the “lines” will have a length of 2.4 km. Currently, piles are already being driven for this site, and concrete filling will begin later this year. The construction of the site is planned to be completed by 2030, and 300 thousand people will be able to settle in it.

The city will be controlled by artificial intelligence at all levels. The entire transport infrastructure will be exclusively electric. Ideally, the city’s power supply should be provided only by solar and chicken energy, however, reserve diesel generators are provided and, possibly, other energy sources – this issue remains open.

Discussing the prospects of the settlement of the complex, the organizers emphasize its long -term character and are not afraid that even a hundred years can take it. The main thing is to start, and success, in their opinion, will be ensured by the uniqueness of the project.
