The first data center Stargate will receive its own gas turbines, solar power plant and energy storage

For uninterrupted supply to the American Superproject, Stargate, in addition to connecting to the energy network, solar energy, natural gas, battery energy storage facilities and diesel generators will be used, Datacenter Dynamics reports. The construction of the first data center has already begun in Texas.

According to Bloomberg sources, familiar with Stargate development plans, part of the energy will probably come from SB Energy, the subsidiary of SoftBank, offering solar and battery solutions. SB Energy has long planned to register the data center in Texas. Last year, the company announced three relevant projects for Google’s Data Centers. We are talking about the “sunny belt” Orion Solar Belt – the Solar power plants Orion I, Orion II and Orion III with a total capacity of almost 900 MW (258 MW, 302 MW and 315 MW, respectively).

Openai informed reporters that various options for modernizing the United States energy system using various technologies – from nuclear energy to battery energy storages. Since it is hardly enough solar energy alone for Stargate, Openai will use other sources. STARGATE contractors have already applied for the construction of a power plant with a natural gas with a capacity of 360.5 MW and worth about $ 500 million. In total, ten gas turbines are involved – five from GE VERNOVA and Solar Turbines (“daughter” Caterpillar). They will directly feed the data center.

The application was submitted by a company operating in the interests of Crusoe Energy, which, in turn, even in the summer began the construction of the 205-MWs of the Central Department of Internal Affairs for Oracle and Openai in Texas Abilene, also known as Project Ludicrous. It is this campus that is expected to become the first current Stargate site. In addition, a permit for the installation of reserve diesel generators has already been obtained.

Additionally, information appeared that Openai is looking for a purchasing manager for the Stargate, responsible for equipment and work with suppliers, and the technical manager of the programs responsible for the infrastructure strategy. Both vacancies involve a wide range of responsibilities, at least five years of experience in large projects are required from applicants. Not so long ago, Openai has already lured from META✴ a specialist in supplies of supplies to help in the implementation of the Stargate project.
