The first AI chip developed by a local company was announced in India

Ola Electric, one of the largest electric two-wheeler manufacturers in India, has announced the launch of its own AI chips. The first three chips are expected to hit the market in 2026, and the fourth, Bodhi 2, will be launched in 2028. These chips will be the first AI model chips developed in India and are already seeing demand in the local market.

The Ojas Edge chip has also been developed for specific applications, which can be adapted for various fields, including automotive, mobile and IoT technologies (Internet of Things). Ola plans to introduce Ojas Edge in its new electric vehicles to manage the charging and driver assistance system (ADAS).

At the presentation, the company showed that all prototypes of these chips provide higher performance and energy efficiency compared to Nvidia GPUs. However, which particular GPU was used and the exact comparison parameters are not disclosed.

Experts note that this step reflects India’s desire to join the global AI technology race, in which the United States and China are currently leading. Given that India, as the most populous country in the world, has a huge potential of talent and technical specialists that it can use to develop its AI technologies, its participation in the global process in this direction can hardly raise doubts.
