The enthusiast created the Discord client for ancient PCs on Windows 95 and 98

Many Discord users note that over time the application becomes more and more bulky and less productive. However, this did not prevent an enthusiast with the nickname of the iPrograminkPP Create a Discord client for Windows 95 and Windows 98 Second Edition.

According to the developer, the launch of the Discord Messenger application on a computer with Windows 95 will require much more effort from the final user than on a PC with Windows 98, where it is enough to install the client himself. For those who want to try to launch Discord on their old PC, the developer published detailed instructions for GitHub.

It is noted that in Windows 98, Windows XP SP2 and new versions of the operating system installation and launch of the application do not require any additional manipulations. The client also works in modern versions of Windows, but it is unlikely that anyone will have to use it, for example, in Windows 10.

It is worth emphasizing that the Discord client for old Windows versions is not a complete analogue of the official application. In connection with a number of technical restrictions, some functions will probably never be implemented. Despite this, the application supports the exchange of messages, images and files, and also displays the text set indicator, a list of channels and other basic capabilities. The client can work in broad -screen mode, although it can be difficult to achieve on a PC with Windows 98 depending on the configuration of the equipment.

In the future, the developer plans to add support for the list of friends, the dark mode, the possibility of joining the vocal channels, the function of turning off the sound on the channels, a change in the displayed name and user status, as well as other basic functions that are not yet available. In general, the IPROGRAMINCPP project is one of the examples of how modern applications can adapt to work in old operating systems.
