The acclaimed startup DeepSeek has released Janus Pro, a powerful AI image generator that rivals OpenAI DALL-E 3

The Chinese company DeepSeek, which gained immense fame thanks to its AI chatbot, announced the Janus Pro family of multimodal artificial intelligence models. The company says these algorithms, available under the MIT open license, are capable of generating and analyzing images better than OpenAI DALL-E 3, PixArt-alpha and Stable Diffusion XL.

Janus Pro is available in versions with from 1 to 7 billion parameters – the more, the better the performance. The flagship model Janus Pro 7B, as TechCrunch reports, successfully demonstrated its capabilities in the GenEval and DPG-Bench benchmarks. “Janus Pro is superior to previous general-purpose models and is comparable to, or even superior to, other companies’ highly specialized solutions. Simplicity, flexibility and efficiency make our AI model a candidate for the next generation of multimodal systems,” the company said in a statement.

The Janus Pro architecture allows you not only to create images, but also to analyze them. However, the current version is limited to generating images with a resolution of 384 × 384 pixels, which is lower than the standards of modern models. However, for compact AI models such results are considered impressive, especially compared to competitors.

It is worth saying that the success of DeepSeek attracted widespread attention after its chatbot topped the top apps in the App Store. But the startup, funded by High-Flyer Capital Management and using energy-efficient training methods, has Wall Street analysts and IT experts doubting whether the United States is likely to maintain its lead in the race for artificial intelligence solutions. Some are also wondering whether the current rush for AI chips will continue, as DeepSeek has taken very different approaches.

According to experts, the revolutionaryness of Janus Pro is in its versatility. It combines analysis and generation, which is rarely found in models of this size. Although the resolution of images has not yet reaches the Dall-E 3 level, the open license and adaptability can accelerate the introduction of Janus Pro into commercial projects.
