Telegram received a big update: adjusting video quality, advanced message editing and more

Telegram received a major update that brought a number of long-awaited features. So, now when playing a video, the optimal video quality will be automatically selected depending on the speed of your Internet connection. Owners of groups and channels can use the new hashtag format, and bots and mini-applications can earn income from advertising. And now you can add a photo to an already sent message through editing.

Telegram has introduced a video quality selection system that automatically adjusts to the speed of each user’s Internet connection—if the connection is slow, the application will select a compressed version of the video, and if the connection is fast, it will offer the maximum quality. In addition, you can manually select the video quality level (low, medium or high).

Channel owners can now publish videos in higher quality, which will be saved in several compression options, which will improve access to content for users with different types of connections. We’ve made it easier to access Picture-in-Picture mode for iOS devices by simply swiping up on a video.

Telegram has also added the ability to control video playback speed using new gestures. Users can now speed up videos up to 1.5 times by simply holding their finger on the right side of the screen. Swiping right increases speed up to 2.5 times. If you release the screen, the video will return to normal speed.

The process of editing sent messages has been simplified. If the user forgot to attach a photo, video or file, he can add them when editing the message without deleting it. You can also replace an already attached file with another one, and the message menu will display information about the time it was last edited.

Owners of groups and channels have new opportunities to work with hashtags. You can now use the #hashtag@username format, which when clicked will display posts and stories only from the specified chat, making it easier to navigate and search within individual chats and channels.

In addition, Telegram has expanded opportunities for creators of bots and mini-applications. Content creators and developers will be able to receive 50% of the revenue from official advertising that is displayed in their bots and channels. Also, the number of messages that bots can send for free has been increased to 30 per second and for an additional fee up to 1000 messages per second.

Changes also occurred in the interaction with reactions. Users will be able to track their number. To do this, just press and hold the reaction counter to see the exact number of reactions left or Telegram Stars.
