Support for the NVIDIA SMOOTH MOTION programmage will appear in the GEFORCE RTX 40th series video cards

With the release of GEFORCE RTX 50th series, NVIDIA also released a new Smooth Motion technology. It is an analogue of AMD Fluid Motion Frames technology – a frame generator implemented at the program level. The technology creates one additional frame between two shots drawn by a video card, thereby increasing the smoothness of the gameplay.

Smooth Motion technology generates and scales the whole frame entirely, which means that elements such as a game user interface, text tips or a map of the terrain will also be generated. Some gaming elements may not look very good, because when generating them, unlike DLSS FRAME Generation (FG) or DLSS Multi Frame Generation (MFG), Smooth Motion does not use movement vectors.

Nvidia Smooth Motion provides image quality and delay worse than Dlss Frame Generation. But, on the other hand, gamers do not need to wait until the game developers integrate the support of this technology, since the NVIDIA SMOOTH MOTION works at the driver’s level, which means it is supported by all modern games.

NVIDIA SMOOTH MOTION technology has become part of the latest version of the NVIDIA Game READY graphic driver, as well as NVIDIA App. It is officially supported only by the GEFORCE RTX of the 50th series, but this is only temporary exclusivity. According to NVIDIA, SMOOTH MOTION support in the future will also appear on the GEFORCE RTX 40th series.

«NVIDIA SMOOTH MOTION is a new technology operating at the driver level, so it takes time for checks and validations at the level of many hardware products. Support for technology GEFORCE RTX 40th series will appear as part of future updates, ”says NVIDIA marketing department.

Gamers will be able to turn on Smooth Motion in the driver settings or in game profiles.

«Yes, the quality of the image and the input delay may not be as good as FG or MFG, but there are many scenarios where it [SMOOTH MOTION] technology will work excellent, ”adds GeForce gospel Jacob Freeman on his page in the page in his page social networks X.

It is noteworthy that Nvidia has not officially announced Smooth Motion for RTX 50th series video cards. The company simply added it to the latest version of the GeForce Game Ready driver. Gamers should also know that the technology works exclusively with games based on DirectX 11 and DirectX 12.
