SteelSeries Apex Pro Gen 3 keyboards feature advanced OmniPoint 3.0 switches and new key sounds

SteelSeries has launched its new line of gaming keyboards, the Apex Pro Gen 3, with a focus on key sound and feel. The new products feature updated switches with Hall effect sensors, added damping foam to reduce noise, and the ability to customize a variety of software functions.

At the heart of the Apex Pro Gen 3 are the new OmniPoint 3.0 switches, which SteelSeries calls “the most technically advanced switches on the market.” They operate based on the Hall effect and use a magnetic field to register your press, resulting in faster response speed and accuracy than traditional mechanical switches. The entire Apex Pro Gen 3 series includes a full-size keyboard, as well as wired and wireless versions with a smaller body (TKL), The Verge reports.

One of the main features of OmniPoint 3.0 switches is the ability to adjust the key actuation point in the range from 0.1 to 4 mm. This feature is especially popular among gamers, who are known to strive to reduce response times as much as possible. In addition, OmniPoint 3.0 technology provides access to features such as Rapid Trigger – the ability to repeatedly press a key without waiting for it to fully return to its original position. SteelSeries has also implemented its own version of Razer’s controversial Snap Tap mode, Rapid Tap, which allows you to perform quick actions in games, such as counter-strafe in Counter-Strike 2. However, it is worth noting that Valve recently banned the use of similar functions from Razer and Wooting.

Much attention is also paid to other aspects that affect the sound and tactile sensations when pressed. To achieve this, the key stabilizers have been improved to eliminate wobble and rattle, and three layers of sound-absorbing foam made from Porylex and silicone rubber have been added. Additionally, to ensure the smoothest and quietest possible movement, each key is treated at the factory with a special lubricant solution.

As for software functions, OmniPoint 3.0 supports 2-in-1 technology, which allows you to assign two actions to one click. For example, run and simultaneously throw a grenade or perform a combo attack. Other features include GG Quickset for quickly switching settings presets depending on the game, and a protection mode against accidental clicks.

Traditionally in the Apex Pro series, the keyboards are equipped with an OLED display to display system information, parameter settings and profiles. The Apex Pro Gen 3 has a suggested retail price of $200, the Apex Pro TKL Gen 3 is $190, and the Apex Pro TKL Wireless Gen 3 is $250. All three models are already available for purchase from retailers worldwide.
