Star Wars Eclipse Development Is ‘Full Speed’ As 2024 Becomes Quantic Dream’s Biggest Year Ever

Guillaume de Fondaumiere, CEO of the French studio Quantic Dream, which belongs to NetEase, commented on the situation around the change in priorities of the Chinese company on the business social network LinkedIn.

In a bid to boost profits and cut costs, NetEase has pulled back from international investments, leaving more than a dozen studios outside China, including Quantic Dream, at risk of closure, according to Bloomberg and Game File.

Fondomier said the studio was “deeply saddened” by the layoffs and studio closures within NetEase, but Quantic Dream was not affected: “We want to assure everyone that our studios in Paris and Montreal were not affected.”

Quantic Dream’s projects are “in full swing” and “progressing as planned.” Fondomier did not name any specific games, but the studio is known to be working on the non-linear action adventure Star Wars Eclipse.

Fondomier added that 2024 has been the company’s best year yet in terms of revenue, thanks to “outstanding performances” from previous years’ games. Detroit: Become Human has sold 11 million copies (including 2 million in the last year).

Star Wars Eclipse will take place during the Rise of the Republic, the golden age of the Jedi, hundreds of years before Anakin Skywalker. Quantic Dream previously assured that the new game is “not a repaint of Detroit: Become Human.”

Star Wars Eclipse was announced at The Game Awards 2021 and has yet to receive a new presentation. In the fall of 2023, Quantic Dream confirmed that the game was “still in development.” The project has no release date.
