The new flagship video card GeForce RTX 5090 from Nvidia has not yet gone on sale, and resellers have already begun to distribute their “tempting” offers. Some offer to purchase the “right to purchase” a new video card, others offer to pre-order the new product.
Recently, each release of a new generation of video cards has been faced with a deficit and influx of speculators, which sweep away from store shelves all available reserves of new accelerators and resell them in exorbitant prices. In any way, to cope with the problem of NVIDIA itself, as well as its partners does not work. The shops themselves could help, using the tools against the bots, which the dealers use to buy up all available new products. But in the case of the last generation of video cards, such tools were not applied and at the start of sales prices for the GeForce RTX 4000 models took off to heaven.
According to reports from Germany, Nvidia will try to limit B2B sales as part of the launch of the new generation GeForce RTX 50. Many speculators are using this channel to buy video cards without VAT and resell them at significantly higher margins. Similar measures have not yet been reported in other countries. However, it is known that the GeForce RTX 5080 model can already be purchased, for example, in Vietnam, although the official release of the video card will take place only next week.
On the eBay trading platform you can find offers to purchase the RTX 5090, although this model is also not yet on sale. Recent rumors indicate that there will be very few RTX 5090 sales at launch. This information is confirmed by at least one UK retailer. That leaves some listings on eBay for more than triple Nvidia’s $2,000 sticker price.
One eBay seller claims to have “guaranteed slots” for the RTX 5090 because it’s a retailer. He promises to buy the card in his name and then send it to an interested buyer, although without the possibility of a return or refund in case of any problems.
«I am an employee of a certain retailer and have guaranteed slots to purchase several units of these GPUs. I have no plans to upgrade my current PC configuration, so I suggest you buy my slots to be able to purchase this card. By purchasing the right (by winning the auction) to purchase a slot, you are guaranteed to be able to buy an Nvidia GeForce 5090 […] I, as the seller, am not responsible for any potential problems associated with this product. Any problems with the functionality of the are the direct responsibility of its manufacturer. By purchasing this product, you agree to the stated terms and conditions. I do not provide or accept returns, however I can help initiate the process of replacing the item with the manufacturer,” the scalper reports.
While it’s not uncommon for sellers to include such disclaimers in their offers, e-commerce platforms typically allow buyers to dispute issues related to defective items, making these terms completely meaningless.
