Sony will not release the compact Xperia 5 VI smartphone until at least this year

Sony introduced the Xperia 1 VI and Xperia 10 VI smartphones this spring, leaving fans of small flagship models waiting for the release of the Xperia 5 VI. However, according to Japanese media, the release of this smartphone may be canceled altogether.

K-Tai Watch reported on a recent press conference attended by two Sony general managers. At the event, it was announced that Sony will not be releasing a new model in the Xperia 5 series, planning instead to continue selling last year’s Xperia 5 V. This decision appears to apply to both the Japanese market and the global market.

The company’s decision is due to changing consumer habits. Sony noted that an increased number of Xperia 5 V users have upgraded to the Xperia 1 VI, compared to a relatively small number of Xperia 5 series users who have upgraded to the previous generation Xperia 1 V model.

Sony has not yet announced details of its marketing strategy for 2025. According to GSMArena, there is a possibility that the new 5 Series model will appear on the market after some modernization to better meet the new requirements.
