Sony to Cut Price of PlayStation VR2 Headset

Sony will cut the price of its PlayStation VR2 virtual reality headset to $399.99 in the US in March, The Verge reports. PlayStation VR2 launched in February 2023 for $549. Price cuts for the device are also expected in other regions.

Sony describes the price cut on its VR headset as “a fantastic time to jump into the immersive world of PSVR2.” About a year ago, the company temporarily stopped production of the PlayStation VR2 due to low demand. The price will drop to €449.99 in Europe, £399.99 in the UK, and ¥66,980 in Japan.

A Bloomberg report last March suggested that Sony had been able to produce more than 2 million PSVR2 headsets since February 2023, but only sold about 1.7 million of them. The latest price cut for the device suggests that the PS5 accessory still isn’t selling as well as the company had hoped.

At $549, the PlayStation VR2 headset is more expensive than the PlayStation 5 console it was released for. Lowering the price to $399 will definitely help boost sales, especially among PC owners, since the company has released a special $60 adapter for the PSVR2 that makes it compatible with that platform.

According to the latest rumors, Sony is working with Apple to ensure that the Apple Vision Pro augmented reality headset supports PSVR2 game controllers.
