Five years after leaving Treyarch, its former co-lead and Call of Duty development veteran Jason Blundell has taken over a new studio under the PlayStation umbrella.

The studio is called Dark Outlaw Games and is part of the PlayStation Studios conglomerate. Blundell talked about its establishment in the new episode of the bonus podcast with journalist Jeff Gerstmann.
Blundell says Dark Outlaw Games has been working “in the shadows” for some time now and will come out when it has something to show. In the meantime, the studio is hiring and working on team building.

Blundell is not in a hurry to reveal what Dark Outlaw Games’ first game will be about, but he is glad to have the opportunity to work with PlayStation: “Sony doesn’t open internal studios everywhere, so I really appreciate that privilege.”
«”It’s very exciting, even at this stage in my career, to get opportunities like this. And there will always be a desire to show audiences something new, to excite them, to launch new franchises, exciting or dangerous,” Blundell said.

Before leaving Treyarch, Blundell served as a producer on Call of Duty: Black Ops, design director on Black Ops 2, development lead on Black Ops 3, and co-author of its zombie mode.
In 2020, Blundell also co-founded Deviation Games, whose debut game was created in partnership with PlayStation. The developer left the team in the fall of 2022, and the studio was closed last spring.
