Sony has added an adaptive charging feature to the PlayStation 5, but it won’t be available to everyone

Sony has released a software update for PlayStation 5 with a number of new features, including a new widget center and adaptive charging for DualSense controllers, which will help extend battery life by adjusting power delivery based on charge level.

The main innovation is the adaptive charging function for the DualSense, DualSense Edge, PlayStation VR2 Sense wireless controllers and the Access adaptive controller for PS5 Slim, as well as the upcoming PS5 Pro gamepad. Adaptive charging helps you save energy by adjusting the duration of power delivery depending on the battery charge level. If the gamepad is not connected, the power supply to the USB port will stop after a while, The Verge clarifies. True, adaptive charging will only be available on the PS5 Slim and the future PS5 Pro, while the original PS5 will not receive the new feature.

Another important update is the introduction of the new Welcome Hub, with which PS5 users will be able to customize widgets on the home screen to monitor parameters such as the console’s memory capacity, the battery level of accessories, friends lists and much more. Sony explains that this is a reimagined version of the Explore tab, which was only available in the US, but will gradually roll out worldwide starting today.

It’s also possible to create personalized 3D audio profiles for headphones and headsets, and configure Remote Play settings to help manage permissions for individual users.

In the next few weeks, Sony will add the ability to share voice chat links across instant messengers and social networks, allowing you to communicate with players who are not on your friends lists. This feature will roll out with an update to the PlayStation App that will allow invitation links to be shared from mobile devices.

With the exception of adaptive charging, the announced features will be available on all PS5 models, The Verge emphasizes. More details can be found on the Sony blog.
