Sony changed the PlayStation management and appointed the new general director

The general director of Hiroki Totoki (Hiroki Totoki), who will continue the course taken by the predecessor to strengthen the business in the field of digital entertainment, will enter the post of General Director.

As Bloomberg notes, the relevance of this strategy is last year’s interest to Sony in the purchase of the film company Paramount Global and the Japanese publishing house Kadokawa Corp. The concentration on games, music, films and the traditional animation for Japan allows Sony to increase both profit and revenue. In the previous quarter, the company increased operating profit by 76 % even in the conditions of sluggish demand for images for smartphones, which became the main category of supplied hardware components for Sony, in addition to gaming consoles.

The current CEO of Sony Group KENITIRO CHECHIDA will lead the board of directors, so it will continue to influence the strategic course of the Japanese giant. Hideaki Nishino, who previously led this area together with Hurmen Hulst, was the sole leader of the PlayStation gaming unit, after the departure of Jim Ryan in early 2024.

In turn, Hulst will be responsible for the internal studios of the Sony game unit and report to Nisino. In fact, he will return to the previous position, which he took before Ryan left. Sony also noted that Khulst will be responsible, among other things, for the PlayStation cooperation with the Sony Pictures film studio and the creation of film adaptations of the company’s game franchises.

Changes in the leadership of Sony occurred shortly after the abolition of a number of PlayStation Games, which followed the failure of the shooter Concord. Against the background of such news, Sony shares at Tokyo Tokyo rose this morning in price by 4.7 %.

Hiroki Totoki to the status of the general director went systematically, increasing the number of senior senior positions he combined inside the Sony Corporation.
