SK hynix announced 61 TB U.2 SSD PS1012 series with PCIe 5.0 interface and QLC memory

SK hynix has announced SSDs of the PS1012 family, made in the U.2 SFF form factor. These high-capacity drives are designed for modern data centers designed for AI workloads. Trial deliveries of new products will begin before the end of this month.

PS1012 products are based on QLC NAND flash memory microchips. The PCIe 5.0 interface is used for data exchange. The stated sequential read speed reaches 13 GB/s, which is said to be twice as fast as previous generation products.

The capacity of the new product is 61.44 TB. A 122 TB variant is also in development and is scheduled to be released in the third quarter of next year. In addition, SK hynix intends to bring to the market SSDs capable of storing 244 TB of information. These devices will be based on 321-layer 4D NAND flash memory chips.

«As AI advances rapidly, demand for high-performance enterprise-class SSDs is growing rapidly, and high-capacity QLC technology is becoming the industry standard. SK hynix follows this trend and introduces a new 61 TB product,” the company said in a statement.

It is noted that PS1012 drives comply with the Open Compute Project (OCP) 2.0 standard. Other technical characteristics have not yet been disclosed. SSD samples are planned to be provided to the world’s leading server manufacturers for evaluation.
