As it became known, Sega is parting with the French Amplitude Studios, which was acquired in 2016 to expand its presence on the PC market, known for Humankind and games in the Endless series (Endless Space, Endless Legend, Endless Dungeon).

The sale of Amplitude Studios was implemented as part of structural changes in the European division of Sega, which in the spring resulted in layoffs for 240 employees. The restructuring is now considered complete.

The buyer of Amplitude was the management of the French studio itself – in other words, after eight years under the wing of Sega, the creators of Humankind and Endless Dungeon became independent again.

«Our journey with Sega over the past eight years has been wonderful. We’ve learned a lot from them, but are now returning to our roots as an independent studio,” Amplitude said in a statement.

Amplitude co-founder Romain de Waubert de Genlis believes that this decision will increase the studio’s flexibility, provide the opportunity to expand boundaries and allow it to become closer than ever to the community.

As for the near future, next week Amplitude will share details of a new patch for Humankind, and in January 2025 at the Amplified event it will tell you what to expect next from the studio.
