Samsung Electronics announced its intention to release a smartphone with a case thickness of only 5.8 mm back in January of this year, and demonstrated it at a distance from visitors at the MWC 2025 event in February. According to rumors, the company could have presented the Galaxy S25 Edge in mid-April, but the new management decided to postpone this event until May or June.
However, even in this case, there is no need to talk about a delay in the announcement as such, since the official information about the timing of the announcement of the new product was initially limited to a broad mention of the first half of the year. In addition, as South Korean media explain, such an informal delay in any case is not connected with technical problems, but is more related to the political situation associated with the impeachment trial of South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol. In such circumstances, the management of Samsung Electronics was simply afraid to bring a new smartphone to the market.
It is also important to consider that in recent months, representatives of the company’s division that specializes in the production of smartphones and other consumer electronics have been methodically nominated for the post of one of the two CEOs of Samsung Electronics. While the search for a permanent CEO is underway, one of them will be Tae-moon Roh, who will also retain his status as the head of the company’s mobile business. Perhaps the new Samsung management has its own ideas about the strategy for introducing new products to the smartphone market.
It is reported that telecom operators who intended to promote the ultra-thin Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge through their networks have been notified of new dates for the smartphone’s launch. According to preliminary information, in terms of price positioning, the ultra-thin model will take a place between the Galaxy S25 Plus and Galaxy S25 Ultra. At the same time, its display diagonal will correspond to the profile characteristic of the first of its brothers, namely 6.6 inches. It is assumed that the annual production volumes of the ultra-thin model will not exceed 3 million units, in the production program of the Galaxy S25 family it will take up no more than 10%.
