Samsung to Release Android XR Smart Glasses This Year

Samsung’s Project Moohan XR headset, which is being developed in partnership with Google and runs the Android XR software platform, is close to hitting the market. It appears that the South Korean tech giant is not planning to stop at just one device in this category and is simultaneously developing more compact XR smart glasses.

Samsung probably felt that using a bulky XR headset for long periods of time was not very convenient. In this regard, lighter and more compact smart glasses designed to be worn all day look more attractive than large headsets like Apple’s Vision Pro or Samsung’s Project Moohan. Samsung’s XR-enabled smart glasses are rumored to be close to launch.

According to sources, Samsung is set to release Android XR-based smart glasses later this year. The device is being developed under the code name Haean, named after a city in South Korea. The company is reportedly currently finalizing the specifications and features of the device.

Samsung is apparently focusing on the convenience of the smart glasses, ensuring that they can be adjusted to fit different face shapes. The design of the device is expected to house multiple cameras and sensors for tracking movements. It is possible that Samsung will launch the Haean smart glasses and the Project Moohan headset at the same time later this year.

Samsung’s entry into the smart glasses market is not unexpected, and the launch of the company’s first such device alongside the Project Moohan headset could be a good move. Qualcomm has previously hinted that the hardware core of Samsung’s glasses will be the Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2 microprocessor — the same chip used in the Project Moohan headset. It was also reported that the glasses will be equipped with a 12-megapixel camera and a 155 mAh battery.
