Samsung to Produce Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 Chips for Its Own AR Headset

Samsung Electronics, desperate for customers for its contract semiconductor manufacturing business, has reportedly begun production of 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chips that will power the Project Moohan augmented reality headset, according to South Korean media.

Of course, Samsung’s intentions to introduce a corresponding headset this year are no secret, since prototypes of it were demonstrated quite openly at MWC 2025, and the company announced its plans in this area without false secrecy. As expected, Samsung will try to release at least 50,000 Project Moohan augmented reality headsets in the second half of the year.

Much more interesting is the information that Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chips for this headset will be manufactured by Samsung using 4-nm technology by its contract division. As is known, Samsung has generally had poor relations with Qualcomm in this area, but the Korean company has managed to stabilize the quality of 4-nm products, and now the yield level of good products exceeds 70%. As customers’ confidence in the stability of product quality grows, Samsung will be able to increase its revenue.

At the end of this year, Samsung does not give up hope of establishing the production of 2-nm products, trying to attract Nvidia and Qualcomm to the corresponding technology. By 2027, the Korean giant expects to master the 1.4-nm technology. According to rumors, by 2029, the company should implement the 1-nm process technology. In the meantime, the yield of suitable 2-nm chips on the Samsung conveyor is approaching 30%, but for this stage of the life cycle, this is quite normal.
