Samsung Onyx is the world’s first DCI-certified LED screen designed for cinemas. It supports 4K resolution image output at up to 120 Hz, which should ensure high accuracy in rendering details and smooth dynamic scenes. The company has provided four formats of LED screens depending on the size of the cinema hall – from 5 meters (pixel pitch 1.25 mm) for boutique and small halls to 20 m (pixel pitch 5.0 mm) for large premium halls. Image output with an aspect ratio of 2.39: 1 (scope) and 1.85: 1 (flat) is supported, which means that the original formats are preserved without additional adjustments; when scaling, the aspect ratios are preserved, and the image is enlarged without distortion.

Unlike projectors, Samsung Onyx displays do not look dull or have problems reproducing bright scenes. HDR-enabled LED screens with a peak brightness of 300 cd/m² exceed cinematic standards six times, accurately conveying detailed shadows and saturated colors, highlights and clear, distinguishable details, Samsung notes. The image retains volume, does not blur or look overexposed. Samsung Onyx provides a clear and rich image even in bright light, meaning they can be used for sports broadcasts, concerts, eSports competitions and business presentations.

The LED screens come with a standard three-year warranty, which can be extended to ten years to reduce the cost of ownership; the kit includes a solution for automatic calibration, which is necessary both during installation and maintenance. Samsung Onyx is compatible with Dolby and GDC media servers, which means simplified migration from projectors, as well as with Dolby Atmos, Meyer Sound, QSC sound systems; integration with Harman JBL surround sound technologies is available. Samsung Onyx collaborates with filmmakers – the company prepared releases of the films Elemental, Inside Out 2 together with Pixar Animation Studios.
