Samsung has appointed a new second CEO, who previously headed the mobile division.

Having decided to bolster its former CEO with a younger part-timer last quarter, South Korean company Samsung Electronics was faced with the fact that Han Jong-hee died of a heart attack just days after appointing Jun Young-hyun to assist him. He will now be replaced by Tae-moon Roh, who until recently ran the company’s mobile business, including smartphones.

However, this personnel reshuffle will be temporary until the board of directors of Samsung Electronics approves a permanent successor to the untimely death of Han Chung-hee. At the same time, during the period of combining positions, Tae Mun-ro will not be relieved of his duties as head of the mobile business. At the same time, he will be helped to cope with his main work by the operating director of the mobile division Choi Won-joon, who is currently in charge of developments and global operations of this structural unit of Samsung Electronics.

The personnel changes are expected to relieve some of the workload for current CEO Chung Young-hyun after the sudden death of his partner last month. However, Samsung Electronics’ strategic direction will still be determined by the founder’s grandson Lee Jae-yong, who remains the company’s executive chairman.
