Samsung Galaxy A16 5G smartphone announced with support for Android OS updates until 2030

Samsung introduced the Galaxy A16 5G smartphone with a larger 6.7-inch screen than its predecessor, as well as unusually long support for software updates for the budget segment. The company guarantees 6 years of Android OS updates, as well as 6 years of security updates. This means the A16 5G will receive full support and run on the latest version of Android until October 31, 2030.

The Samsung Galaxy A16 5G smartphone will be shipped to European countries with an octa-core Samsung Exynos 1330 processor clocked at up to 2.4 GHz, manufactured using a 5nm process technology. The smartphone is expected to be offered in India and Thailand with a 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chip clocked at 2.4GHz. The smartphone has 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of flash storage. The storage capacity can be expanded using microSD memory cards by another 1.5 TB.

The smartphone is equipped with a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution (2340×1080 pixels) and a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The cutout at the top of the display houses a front camera with a resolution of 13 megapixels. On the rear panel there is a main 50-megapixel camera with autofocus, complemented by a 5-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2-megapixel macro sensor.

The smartphone runs Android 14 with One UI 6.1 software shell. The 5000 mAh battery supports 25W fast charging. Galaxy A16 5G is protected from moisture and dust according to the IP54 standard. To unlock the device, use the side fingerprint scanner combined with the power button. It should also be noted that there is no 3.5 mm audio jack.

According to Samsung France, the smartphone has a repairability rating of 8.4/10, the same as its predecessor A15 5G. The price of Samsung Galaxy A16 5G 4/128 GB in France is €249.
