Samsung showed off Project Moohan, an extended reality (XR) headset it co-created with Google, at MWC 2025 as an alternative to Apple’s $3,500 Vision Pro, which launched last year. The headset will launch this year, a Samsung spokesperson told CNBC, first for developers, before consumers can begin to use it.
Samsung unveiled a prototype of its Project Moohan headset in December last year. The device is based on Google’s Android XR software platform, which Qualcomm also helped develop alongside Samsung and Google.
Contrary to expectations, Samsung did not reveal any details about the new product at MWC 2025. In December, the company announced that the headset’s software platform would integrate Gemini, Google’s AI-powered smart assistant, which could be used to navigate apps and tasks. The presence of cameras in Project Moohan also suggests the use of gesture control, similar to Apple’s Vision Pro. It is also known that the headset is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip and will come with an external battery.
«”To me, a breakthrough technology is the combination of advanced vision with intelligence that understands the user’s intent. I think without intelligence, it’s a defective product,” Patrick Chomet, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile division, told CNBC.
