Rockstar to Upgrade GTA V on PC to Next-Gen Version Three Years After Consoles — System Requirements to Increase, Too

Developers from Rockstar Games have revealed the release date and details of an update that will bring improvements from current-gen consoles to Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online on PC.

As it became known, the technical and gameplay features that debuted on PS5, Xbox Series X and S back in the spring of 2022 will reach the PC version of GTA V less than two weeks later, on March 4.

The free update will include the following technical improvements:

  • Ray tracing – ambient occlusion, global illumination, shadows and reflections;
  • Support for AMD FSR 3 (and first generation too) and Nvidia DLSS 3 technologies;
  • Faster boot times when using SSD drives and DirectStorage;
  • Support for ultra-wide monitors, super-ultra-wide formats and higher frame rates;
  • Support for the DualSense controller (in particular, adaptive triggers);
  • An advanced sound system with Dolby Atmos technology support and increased clarity of speech, screensavers and music.

Due to the integration of new technologies, the system requirements of GTA V will increase. The game’s current “appetites” as of March 4 are listed below:

Minimum Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10;
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-4770 or AMD FX-9590;
  • Video card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1630 or AMD Radeon RX 6400;
  • Video memory: 4 GB;
  • RAM: 8 GB;
  • DirectX version: 10;
  • Storage space: 105 GB on SSD.

Recommended Requirements

  • OS: Windows 11;
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-9600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600;
  • Video card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 or AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT;
  • Video memory: 8 GB;
  • RAM: 16 GB;
  • DirectX version: 10;
  • Storage space: 105 GB SSD with DirectStorage support.

Rockstar will continue to support the classic GTA V, but the original GTA Online for PC will be released as a separate client, users of which will not be able to play with owners of the enhanced version.

As for GTA Online on PC, its users will also receive innovations from PS5, Xbox Series X and S:

  • New vehicles and upgrades for them in the Hao’s Special Works workshop;
  • The daily Photo Hunt challenge, which requires you to photograph animals in the vastness of Southern San Andreas;
  • The ability to subscribe to GTA+;
  • Career Progress feature to track your progress in all types of criminal activities;
  • Updated home page;
  • The “Character Career” service, which will allow you to quickly join the game by choosing your area of ​​activity and using the starting capital of GTA$4,000,000;
  • Anti-cheat program based on kernel drivers and proactive voice chat moderation.

GTA V and GTA Online were released in 2013 on PS3 and Xbox 360, and subsequently appeared on PS4 and Xbox One (November 2014), PC (April 2015), PS5 and Xbox Series X and S (March 2022). By the end of 2024, the game had sold over 210 million copies.
