Sales of the Radeon RX 9070 GRE graphics card will begin tomorrow. However, unlike the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 models released in March, the RX 9070 GRE model will not be available in all regions of the world. The new product will be available exclusively in China. Local reviewers have already formed their first impressions of the new card.

The Radeon RX 9070 GRE is powered by a Navi 48 GPU with 3,072 stream processors, which is 15% fewer than the RX 9070. The card also features 12GB of GDDR6 memory with 192-bit memory support, resulting in a 33% reduction in memory bandwidth. AMD has priced the Radeon RX 9070 GRE at CNY 4,199 ($587), which is 7% cheaper than the RX 9070.

According to Chinese reviewers, the RX 9070 GRE delivers performance on par with the Radeon RX 7900 GRE and GeForce RTX 5070. As always, the card’s performance depends on the game settings, resolution, and specific tests chosen by the reviewers.

While AMD claims that the RX 9070 GRE delivers 6% better performance than the RX 7900 GRE at 1440p, reviews paint a different picture. In reality, the new card only matches the RX 7900 GRE and RTX 5070. Reviewers also note that the new card is noticeably faster than the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB. However, the latter is cheaper at 3,599 yuan (about $500).

«In many gaming tests, the RX 9070 GRE performed on par with the RTX 5070. Compared to the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, the Radeon card takes the lead, with an advantage of up to 24%. In Far Cry 6 and F1 24, the performance difference between the RX 9070 GRE and the RTX 5070 was only a few frames. If we are not too picky, both cards provided the same level of performance. The RX 9070 GRE’s ray tracing tests surprised us. In Cyberpunk 2077, a game where GeForce cards usually have a significant advantage, the Radeon RX 9070 GRE showed almost the same level of performance as the RTX 5070. And in Assassin’s Creed: Shadow and F1 24, it was even faster,” writes Expreview.

Overall, AMD has released a decent card, the reviewers concluded, but they were not impressed by its price-to-performance ratio. Unlike the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070, for which the company set more aggressive prices, AMD is not putting such pressure on the competition this time.

AMD currently has no plans to bring the RX 9070 GRE to the global market. However, if the company does decide to do so, it will likely have to lower the price of the card, as it did with the RX 7900 GRE.
