Qualcomm promises that next year the cost of PCs based on Snapdragon X will drop to $700

At the quarterly reporting conference, Qualcomm management did not particularly highlight the revenue received from the sale of Snapdragon X family processors for the so-called AI PCs, but made it clear that next year PCs based on them will appear on the market, the cost of which will start at $700.

Let’s remember that now the most affordable laptop based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus processor is the Microsoft Surface for $999, but a compact desktop system based on the Snapdragon X Elite can be purchased for $100 cheaper. “Looking ahead to 2025, in addition to new device models, our X-Family product roadmap will expand to include $700 products without sacrificing NPU performance,” Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said in a statement. , quoted by The Verge. The head of the company did not make a direct indication that these would be laptops.

Qualcomm’s financial statements do not yet separate out revenue from the sale of PC processors because it is too early to do so, but the company’s management confirmed that it is working with OEMs to create the next generation of Copilot+ PCs. In early September, Germany will host the IFA 2024 exhibition, where Qualcomm intends to introduce new products for PCs. According to Amon, Qualcomm will continue to be one of the leading suppliers of components for the AI PC segment. “We believe that PCs will become a major new driver of diversification for the company,” the CEO said.

And yet, the market transition to AI PC, according to Amon, will be steadily slow. At the same time, some PC models based on Snapdragon X processors are already sold out. The company plans to introduce a new processor in its more traditional Snapdragon 8 mobile family by the end of October, and smartphones based on it will be released either by the end of this year or by the beginning of next year. The company also managed to enter into long-term licensing agreements with two major Chinese smartphone manufacturers.
