PocketBook and Sharp presented digital paintings on E Ink displays that are charged once a year

The PocketBook and Sharp companies, together with the developer of electronic ink displays – the E Ink company – presented digital posters for interior decoration. Such a poster is charged once a year, and the images on it can be changed at any time wirelessly. Rich colors and no backlight create the impression of a painting on the wall, adding coziness and decorating the room.

Digital paintings are based on E Ink Spectra 6 color displays. Each cell of such a screen contains six dyes, presumably white, black, yellow, cyan, magenta and green. The company does not disclose details of the technology and color range. It must be admitted that of all the E Ink color displays previously presented by E Ink, the Spectra 6 screens look the most attractive, promising the richest colors and shades than one could expect from the technology as a whole.

InkPoster digital posters, announced at CES 2025, were presented by PocketBook and Sharp. The first announced models with diagonals of 13.3 and 31.5 inches, and the second announced 28.5 inches. The resolution of the first two, respectively, reaches 1200 × 1600 and 2560 × 1440 pixels. Sharp display resolution is 2160 × 3060 pixels. Obviously, PocketBook and Sharp products have different manufacturers. In this case, Sharp uses proprietary technology for the production of active matrix substrates – IGZO, which allows obtaining higher resolution without increasing power consumption.

The difference in technology is reflected in the cost of the product. PocketBook displays cost $599 and $1700, while Sharp displays cost $2400. The battery capacity is larger in models with higher resolution – 20,000 mAh. The smaller picture has a battery capacity of 14,000 mAh. Wireless connection to the digital poster is possible via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Energy consumption occurs only at the moment of image change, which allows you to rarely resort to charging the poster – about once a year.

Pictures for new products will be supplied by a special application with pictures pre-selected by curators (probably copyrights are taken into account) or you can upload your own photographs. The offer from PocketBook, Sharp and E Ink differs favorably from digital frames on LCD or OLED displays in that it will not shine in the eyes at night.
