PlayStation Network is back online after a major outage, but not entirely

Yesterday, owners of Sony PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 game consoles lost the ability to launch online games: due to problems on the Sony PlayStation Network (PSN) platform, games were only available in single-player mode. The overall outage lasted about eight hours and affected all PlayStation systems. It was reported that the problem was successfully fixed and users could connect to the platform again, but it turned out that this was not entirely true.

While the cause of the issue appears to have been largely resolved, some gamers have been posting on social media about issues with communications and connectivity features. It is reported that when trying to launch an online game, an error code WS-116522-7 appears, which is described on the technical support page as “failed installation of a system software update.”

The official PSN service status page on Tuesday morning said that “all services are working,” but then a message appeared under the game streaming status section saying that “some services are experiencing issues.”

It appears that troubleshooting is currently ongoing. The PSN status page includes the following information: “You may be having trouble launching games, apps, or online features. We are trying to resolve this issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience. Start: 10/01/2024, 16:29″

Also in the section on the status of PSN network services, it is noted that there may be slowdowns and delays in downloading games, as PSN specialists “manage download traffic in conjunction with Internet providers.” PSN assured users that it “appreciates the community’s support and understanding.”
