PlayStation has a major outage worldwide: online games and functions do not work

Owners of Sony PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 game consoles who intended to spend time playing online games have temporarily lost this opportunity: the Sony PlayStation Network (PSN) platform is experiencing a major outage – games are only available in single-player mode.

The problem is confirmed by the PSN status page. The failure affected PS Vita, PS3, PS4, PS5 consoles and the web version. “You may have difficulty launching games, applications, or online features. We are working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience,” Sony said in a statement. In one of the cases, when trying to start the game, a message appeared: “PS5 error code WS-116522-7”; and when trying to clarify its nature, the web page on the Sony platform suggested: “System software – update failure.”

Console owners cannot log in, play multiplayer games, or even single-player games that require a login and online connection to run; Offline games mostly work fine. Information about the cause of the failure has not yet been received, and the time frame for fixing the error is also unknown. Just a few hours ago, a bug was fixed that caused the main screen of PS5 games to break, but the new glitch is not believed to be related to it.
