PCs with AI reduce user productivity – people do not know how to properly communicate with AI

Users of PCs with artificial intelligence systems demonstrate lower productivity compared to those who work on traditional computers, according to the results of a study commissioned by Intel.

The company, which is clearly interested in strong sales of AI-powered PCs, came to a disappointing conclusion after reviewing the results of a survey of 6,000 people from Germany, France and the UK. A study commissioned by Intel found that people lose an average of 15 hours per week on AI-related tasks. Some everyday tasks, including writing emails, transcribing meeting notes and working with files, can be easily delegated to AI – in contrast, it can save workers up to four hours a week, Intel cites a study conducted by Anthropic, but the balance remains unbalanced. in favor of new technologies.

«Many AI users spend a lot of time figuring out how to best communicate with AI tools to get the results they want. Developers of AI products should place greater emphasis on training to demonstrate the true potential of “everyday AI,” says Intel research. Developers have indeed yet to convince the public that these technologies can be useful: 86% of consumers have never heard of or used an AI PC, according to the survey results.

The average user’s illiteracy in this area leads to what the researchers called “misconceptions”: 44% of respondents indicated that the AI PC is a futuristic technology or a gimmick; 53% felt that such computers were only for creative or technical professionals; 86% expressed concerns about privacy and security of their data when working with AI-enabled PCs; 17% indicated that these technologies are unsafe and unregulated. However, disclosure has a beneficial effect on people: 32% of people who are not familiar with PCs with AI said they would consider buying a computer with such features when it’s time to upgrade; among those who had the opportunity to work with similar machines, this figure rose to 64%.
