Panasonic Unveils Lumix S1RII Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera with Fast Autofocus, 8K, and Improved Stabilization for $3,300

Panasonic has announced the Lumix S1RII mirrorless camera, an update to the 2019 Lumix S1R with a new sensor, a more compact body, a hybrid focusing system, and the ability to record 8K video at 30 fps. The Lumix S1RII features eye and face detection, and improved AI tracking for moving subjects.

The Lumix S1RII’s new 44.3-megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor is slightly smaller in pixel count than its predecessor (47.3MP), but offers improved video capabilities, including 5.8K recording in Apple ProRes RAW HQ or ProRes RAW without an external recorder.

The camera can shoot full-resolution 12-bit RAW images at up to 40 frames per second using the electronic shutter, or up to 10 frames per second (nine for 14-bit RAW images) using the mechanical shutter.

For more detailed photos, the Lumix S1RII offers a Manual mode that lets you capture still images at 177 megapixels by shifting the sensor by half a pixel and then combining multiple exposures.

The camera’s built-in image stabilizer provides an effect equivalent to eight stops of exposure. Panasonic says that when shooting video, the camera uses electronic image stabilization without cropping, which reduces “peripheral distortion while maintaining the original angle of view.”

The Lumix S1RII features a 5.76-megapixel OLED viewfinder and a 3-inch tilt-and-turn touchscreen LCD with 1.84-megapixel resolution.

The Lumix S1RII has UHS-II SD and CFexpress Type B card slots, and video can also be recorded to an external SSD via a 10Gbps USB Type-C port. The camera has a full-size HDMI port for connecting to an external display.

The Lumix S1RII weighs 800 grams.

The Panasonic Lumix S1RII is expected to go on sale in late March for .
