Oppo Find N5 Will Be Able to Turn into a Miniature MacBook, But It Will Require a Real Apple Computer

The Oppo Find N5, unveiled today, not only turned out to be the thinnest foldable smartphone, but also received deep integration with Apple Mac computers for file transfer and remote control, The Verge notes.

To connect the Find N5 to a Mac, you need to install the Oppo O Plus Connect app on your computer from the Chinese manufacturer’s website. The connection is quick – the main thing is that both devices are on the same local network; on the smartphone side, all the necessary options are available in the Settings app. From the Mac, you can view files on your smartphone and, if necessary, transfer them wirelessly. This is a significant achievement, since there are still no convenient means of even wired file exchange between Android and macOS, and in any case, third-party software is required.

A more impressive feature is remote control of the computer, in which the image of the Mac screen is duplicated on the Find N5 screen. It can be expanded to full screen or folded in half, creating a miniature version of a laptop. Remarkably, the devices do not need to be on the same local network for this to happen. The lower half of the screen can be used in several modes: as a keyboard, touchpad, on-screen mouse, or a set of buttons that recreate the most popular keyboard shortcuts.

Previously, Oppo’s O Plus Connect app was used to share files between Oppo, OnePlus, and Realme phones and Windows computers, as well as transfer data between iPhones and iPads. Vivo offered similar capabilities last April, but they only work on OriginOS, a version of Android exclusive to China. Oppo has promised that the syncing features will come to its other devices.
