OpenWrt Two Router Will Offer 10GbE and Wi-Fi 7 Support for $250

The OpenWrt team, according to Liliputing, has begun creating the OpenWrt Two router, which will go on sale at the end of this year. Specialists from GL.iNet are taking part in the development of the new product.

The OpenWrt One router (pictured) debuted in December 2024. Designed in collaboration with Banana Pi, the device features a MediaTek Filogic 820 (MT7981B) processor with two Arm Cortex-A53 cores, 1GB of DDR4 memory, and an optional M.2 2242/2230 SSD with a PCIe 2.0 x1 (NVMe) interface. There are 2.5GbE and 1GbE network ports, as well as a Wi-Fi 6 adapter. The price is around $90.

OpenWrt Two is based on the MediaTek Filogic 880 (MT7988) chip, which combines four Arm Cortex-A73 cores with a frequency of up to 1.8 GHz and a DDR3/DDR4 memory controller (the actual RAM capacity is not yet specified). Wi-Fi 7 wireless communication (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be) is implemented in the frequency ranges of 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz. Support for 4096-QAM modulation is mentioned.

The new product, compared to the original model, has a wider range of Ethernet ports: 10GbE SFP, 5GbE RJ-45, 2.5GbE RJ-45 (four connectors) and 1GbE RJ-45 (one or two connectors). The increased number of network sockets will expand the functionality of the router. As before, OpenWrt, an embedded OS with a Linux kernel, will be used as a software platform. According to the developers, this will provide the ability to modify and customize the device in accordance with specific requirements. The cost of OpenWrt Two is expected to be about $250.
