OpenAI may enter the social media market. The developers of ChatGPT are working on a project that may in some ways resemble the social network X. The main goal is said to be the ability to train AI on unique data – as the Meta✴ and X platforms already do.

The project is still in its early stages, but The Verge reports that the company has already created a prototype internally, with a feed where users can post images generated by ChatGPT. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has called on outside experts to discuss the idea, but it’s not clear whether the app will stand alone or become part of ChatGPT.
The launch of the social network could intensify the standoff between Altman and Elon Musk. Recall that in February, Musk offered to buy OpenAI for $97.4 billion, to which Altman responded: “No, thanks, but we, in turn, could buy Twitter for $9.74 billion.”
At the same time, analysts believe that OpenAI risks entering into direct competition with Meta✴, which is rumored to be developing a separate app with an AI assistant and a social feed. Earlier, when the first reports about the Meta✴ app appeared, Altman published a post in X that he did not rule out creating his own social network.
Having its own social network would allow OpenAI to collect unique data in real time, just as X and Meta✴ already do by training their artificial intelligence (AI) models on open user content on their platforms. It remains unclear whether OpenAI’s project will expand beyond the company’s lab.
