OpenAI challenged Google: Internet search via ChatGPT opened to all users

OpenAI today opened Internet search through the chatbot with artificial intelligence ChatGPT to all users. Thus, the developers directly challenged Google, which completely dominates the global search engine market.

The solution with the simple name ChatGPT Search, that is, “ChatGPT Search,” will be available to any user who is logged into their account in the chatbot mobile applications or the web version of the service, OpenAI announced on Monday, December 16. Previously, Internet search through ChatGPT was only available to paid subscribers. According to the company, searching through ChatGPT allows you to “receive fast and relevant answers with links to relevant web sources.”

The request to ChatGPT is entered as usual and the chatbot itself will decide whether it is necessary to search for something on the Internet on this issue. And if the user clicks the “Search” button, the bot will directly search the Internet. You can also ask the chatbot to clarify your search terms or prepare a more detailed summary of the results.

It is also worth noting that ChatGPT Search can be set as the default search engine for your web browser. Google may have a really serious rival, because it will be much easier for people to ask the AI about something and see a summary of information in response, rather than formulate a request and look for the necessary information on different sites from the search results.

OpenAI also showed off a new option that will allow users to ask the chatbot questions – such as what to do in Zurich before Christmas – and receive verbal answers.

The expansion of the proprietary search engine became part of a 12-day marathon of announcements from OpenAI. Previously, the developer introduced a new, more expensive ChatGPT Pro subscription for $200 per month and opened an artificial intelligence video creation tool called Sora to the general public. In the coming days, we can expect at least one more announcement from OpenAI, because today is only the eighth day of the marathon.
