OpenAI begins searching for specialists to help it create robots

OpenAI is best known for creating the ChatGPT chatbot and large language models, but last year the company decided to return to the idea of creating general purpose robots, which it tried to abandon back in 2020. Now the head of the robotics direction of OpenAI has announced the opening of vacancies in the specialized department.

As TechCrunch notes, for these statements, Caitlin Kalinowski, who has been leading hardware solutions at OpenAI since November last year, and before that worked at Meta✴ Platforms on the creation of augmented reality glasses, used her own page on the social network X. She noted that OpenAI will develop its own robots with a unique set of sensors that will find universal application in the dynamically changing conditions of the modern world. OpenAI also intends to create computing components for robots that will be used to run the company’s AI models. The created robots will have different form factors, as explained by an OpenAI representative.

The company is currently looking for employees to test robot prototypes, as well as developers with experience creating robotic limbs. Over time, the company expects to establish mass production of robots, measured in millions of copies. OpenAI itself supports startups X1 and Figure, specializing in humanoid robots. Earlier it also became known that OpenAI is not abandoning attempts to create its own chip to speed up the work of the AI models being developed.
