The financial director of Openai Sarah Fryar reported that the company intends to build several data centers in the American state of Texas. Currently, options for obtaining land and ensuring the necessary energy capacities are being studied.

Recently, Openai, SoftBank and Oracle have announced the formation of a joint-free Stargate enterprise for the development of AI-infrastructure in the United States. At the initial stage, it is planned to invest $ 100 billion in the construction of the data center, and in the future, the total investment will reach $ 500 billion.

The first set of Stargate data centers will be located on the territory of the Lancium campus in Abilina (Texas). According to estimates, the cost of the object will be about $ 1.1 billion, and it is planned to complete its creation by the end of 2025. The complex will receive its own gas turbines, a solar power plant and energy storage.

As Freyar now told, in addition to the site in Abilina, Openai also considers other possible locations on the territory of Texas for the construction of dat centers. In addition, potential sites in Pennsylvania, Oregon and Wisconsin are evaluated. Stargate has already begun to accept proposals from leading contractors for the design and construction of data centers, which “determine the future of calculations on the basis of AI.”

At first, SoftBank and Openai intend to invest $ 19 billion in the Stargate megaproject. At the same time, to finance the Openai initiative, it expects to carry out a new investment round by $ 40 billion, which will increase the company to $ 340 billion. It is expected that the key investor will be SoftBank, which intends to invest in in OpenAi from $ 15 billion to $ 25 billion. At the same time, SoftBank itself is trying to attract Apollo Global and Brookfield investment companies for further financing Stargate.
