Ontario will tear the contract with SpaceX $ 68 million due to duties for goods from Canada

The Canadian province of Ontario intends to break the contract with the operator of the Starlink satellite network in the person of the American company SpaceX worth 100 million Canadian dollars (about $ 68 million). The reason for such a decision was a duty of 25 % for goods from Canada, which was approved by US President Donald Trump last weekend.

We are talking about a contract that was signed last November and involves providing the high -speed Internet of residents of remote rural regions of Ontario, as well as the northern part of the province. Ontario, although it is the most densely populated part of Canada, still, because of its size, it cannot provide a complete coating with high-speed Internet by terrestrial methods, and satellite Internet would be an excellent solution.

The head of Ontario Dag Ford wrote about the upcoming breakdown of the contract on his page on the social network X. “We will tear the province of the province with Starlink. Ontario will not do business with people who want to destroy our economy. Not Canada began this struggle with the United States, but, believe me, we are ready to win it, ”Ford said.

«We simply will not work with American companies, ”Ford noted and added that the province will spend $ 30 billion for purchases as part of regional projects. “President Trump is the only one to blame. Maybe Elon Musk can call his friend? This is [a contract of contract] is one of the consequences, ”Ford added.

Recall, a few days ago, US President Donald Trump signed a decree on the introduction of additional duties on goods imported into a country from Canada, Mexico and China. If for China, the amount of duties is 10 %, then for Canada and Mexico tariffs will be 25 %. This does not apply to Canada energy carriers that will be taxed in the amount of 10 %.
