One of Samsung Electronics’ Two CEOs Dies at 63

The management shakeup at Samsung Electronics has been ongoing for months as the South Korean giant tries to overcome the crisis it finds itself in. Han Jong-hee, who was replaced as CEO last week, died suddenly on Tuesday.

According to world news agencies, Han Chung-hee’s heart stopped at the age of 63. In addition to his position as CEO, he served as vice chairman of the board of directors of Samsung Electronics, and for the previous three years, he headed the company’s division dealing with mobile devices and home appliances. Previously, Han Chung-hee headed Samsung’s display business, and his achievements are generally credited with displacing Japanese competitors like Sony from the television market.

In such cases, it is customary to say that nothing foreshadowed trouble – Han Chung-hee did not complain of health and recently took part in the general meeting of shareholders. Han Chung-hee was hired by Samsung in 1988 and devoted more than 37 years of his life to this company. The heads of many Korean corporations expressed their condolences to colleagues and relatives of Han Chung-hee in connection with his sudden death. Even rival LG Electronics did not stand aside, the management of which recognizes the merits of the deceased in the development of the entire South Korean electronics industry. Chun Young-hyun, appointed CEO of Samsung Electronics last week, will continue to perform his duties alone.
