The largest manufacturer of accelerators for solving problems in the field of artificial intelligence, represented by Nvidia, will be more inclined towards robotics in 2025. It is expected that in the first half of this year the manufacturer will release to the market a new computing platform for humanoid robots called Jetson Thor.

The move is expected and part of Nvidia’s multi-year strategy to grow its business. However, the company does not plan to directly compete with manufacturers of humanoid robots, such as Tesla. Instead, Nvidia wants to build a robot platform that its customers can use. Earlier this year, Nvidia’s vice president of robotics and edge computing, Deepu Talla, said the robotics market was highly fragmented, with “hundreds of thousands” of potential customers who might be interested in using a single robotic computing platform. He also added that the company cooperates with such large manufacturers as Tesla, Siemens and Universal Robots, with the latter two manufacturers already actively implementing solutions based on the Jetson platform.
Talla attributes the significant shift in the production of humanoid robots to two factors. We are talking about the rapid development of generative neural networks and the possibility of training robots using a simulated environment. Obviously, Nvidia considers the robotics market one of the promising areas for further development of the company and increasing profits. The company’s move into the space comes at a time when Nvidia’s major customers, such as Amazon and Google, are looking to reduce their dependence on the company’s graphics accelerators by trying to create their own equivalents that can efficiently handle artificial intelligence tasks.
