On May 4, Nvidia announced a contest on the X social network dedicated to Star Wars Day. As part of the giveaway, users are given the opportunity to receive one of two GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition video cards, stylized as iconic spaceships – X-Wing and NCC-1701. To participate, you need to publish a post with the hashtag #RTXON, in which the user indicates which universe – Star Wars or Star Trek – is closer to him, and also explains his choice.

The GeForce RTX 5090 is a consumer-grade graphics accelerator (GPU) that belongs to the next generation of Nvidia graphics cards. Participants in the competition will be able to get the Founders Edition version, which is a reference version without modifications to the cooling system and technical characteristics. Visual differences between the models lie in the thematic design of the case: the Star Wars version is decorated with elements inspired by the X-Wing fighter, and the Star Trek version refers to the legendary Enterprise NCC-1701 ship. Nvidia has not officially published images of the graphics cards with a detailed review, but their promotional materials emphasize their visual affiliation with the corresponding franchises.

Contestants are not required to fill out forms, provide personal information, or complete additional tasks. The only requirement is to post on social media X with the #RTXON hashtag and a statement of commitment to one of the parties. Nvidia does not disclose the number of winners, selection criteria, or timing of the results. It also does not specify whether the creativity of the answer, account activity, or other parameters will be taken into account. All this turns the contest into an easy way to attract users’ attention without using paid advertising.

Since the promotion is timed to coincide with Star Wars Day, which is celebrated annually by fans of the cult science fiction saga on May 4 all over the world, it can be assumed that most users will express sympathy for this universe. Against this background, some participants suggested that the chances of winning are higher for those who choose the Star Trek universe. However, in the official information from Nvidia, there is no indication of two separate winners or an attempt to balance the audience’s preferences.

The idea of holding a giveaway of a GPU with a design in the style of two of the most recognizable sci-fi franchises is clearly a marketing one. With minimal changes to the design of the graphics card case, Nvidia managed to draw attention to the GeForce RTX 5090 – the most talked about GPU at the moment. In the context of recent exclusive releases from other manufacturers, this solution looks more economical, but at the same time quite effective in terms of audience reach.
