Laptop makers are indeed testing their products to ensure there are no defects among GeForce RTX 50-series mobile graphics cards, but the issue has not affected this segment, an Nvidia representative assured The Verge.

Earlier, German resources Heise and Hardwareluxx reported that Nvidia contacted laptop manufacturers and asked them to check their products for the presence of fewer rasterization units (ROPs) in video cards than required by official specifications. At the same time, the company told the American resource The Verge that there are no problems with mobile graphics. “All partners continue to carry out checks as part of our standard testing procedure,” commented on the situation, Ben Berraondo, director of public relations for the Nvidia GeForce division. The company will contact both German publications and discuss this issue, he added.
The Verge asked the company’s representative twice to clarify his position. “So instead of ‘no graphics cards are affected’, we now have ‘some laptop graphics cards’ affected?” they asked. “Nope,” was the reply. “Just to make sure for the third time, does ‘nope’ mean no laptops will be affected by the missing ROP issue?” The Verge asked. “Right, no issues anymore,” Mr. Berraondo assured.
The Nvidia representative was categorical, and this gives hope that laptops with GeForce RTX 50 graphics cards should expect a full set of rasterization units. The company could have come to this conclusion in two ways: either the problem did not exist from the start, or it has disappeared only now because partners have weeded out all the defects during testing. Heise and Hardwareluxx noted that the additional testing program has affected retail sales: some laptops will go on sale in April or May, although they were originally supposed to be released in March. Heise, however, gave another reason for the possible delay. According to the publication, Nvidia has only recently distributed the latest version of vBIOS – firmware for mobile graphics cards.
